Office manager

As office manager, it will be your job to help with the general organization of the office. This includes answering phones, taking messages, sending and responding to emails, helping coordinate events, organizing reservations, etc. You basic duty is to do what you can to help the editors and help the staff run smoothly. This position involves setting up office hours and is paid on an hourly rate.

Copy Editor

As copy editor, you will serve as the liaison between the writers, the page designers and the editors. It is your job to communicate with the writers about how their assignments are going, and be knowledgeable about each assignment and its status. You will edit stories as they come in, and work with the writers to make their work the best it can be. You will be their resource when they have questions, problems, etc. This position involves setting up office hours and is paid on an hourly rate.

Photo Editor

This position is much like the copy editor, but for photographers. As photo editor, you will be the link between the photographers and the designers and editors. It is your job to communicate with the photographers about how their assignments are going, and be knowledgeable about each assignment and its status. You will help them achieve the photos the editors and designers are looking for, and will be their first resource for problems, photo questions, etc. You will also sort through their photos when they are submitted and rank them so the designers can easily find the best pictures. This position involves setting up office hours and is paid on an hourly rate.

Designer

Designers are responsible for creating the pages, and actually creating the look of the Razorback yearbook. They choose a template to work from, select and crop photos, write captions and headlines, create sidebars or other alternative coverage, etc. This is a position that involves a lot of creativity and a time commitment when it comes to deadlines. This position involves setting up office hours and is paid on an hourly rate.

Writer

Writers are given assignments each deadline and can take on as many or as few stories as they want. They are responsible for suggesting story ideas, conducting interviews, collecting information, producing well-written stories and submitting them to the editor on time. The writers are the voice of the Razorback, so the job is an important one! This position is an out of office position, which means the hours are very flexible as long as the work gets done. Writers are paid per story.

Photographer

Photographers take on as many or as few assignments as they want each deadline. They are then responsible for going to the event, meeting, etc, shooting the assignment, collecting names of people in the photos, exploring unique shots, extreme angles, unusual subject matter and getting interesting, compelling photos. Photos are the heart of the yearbook, so this job is incredibly important! It takes a commitment to hard work and an artistic eye to do this job well. Photographers work out of office, so the time constraints are flexible. Photographers are paid per published photo.

Webmaster

The webmaster is essential to the Razorback’s connection with students off campus, alumni, community members and the general public. The webmaster is responsible for updating the Razorback Web site on a weekly basis, as well as generating ideas to make it more appealing, interactive and more well-known. The position also involves working with the marketing team to tie events together and promote them in multiple media. This position involves setting up office hours and is paid on an hourly rate.

Marketing Team member

Members of the marketing team are responsible for getting the Razorback’s name out on campus and in the community. A lack of awareness is a constant problem for the book, so marketing representatives must be creative in coming up with events, activities, promotional opportunities, etc. Reps also create flyers, posters, etc and are responsible for organizing and planning any events they come up with. This is a job that requires creativity, hard work and lots of personality! This position involves setting up office hours and is paid on an hourly rate.
